You Are Not What You Eat
56
Because if you were, you wouldn't eat it.
Mainly, though I am talking about meat. I've recently decided to go vegan, I'm taking little steps, but I know I can no longer eat anything that once had a beating heart. Because I myself still have one and it pangs whenever I even look at a piece of meat, for whatever poor animal it used to be and how it was treated in its short-term, predestined life.
I have always been great when it comes to empathy. So when I see a piece of chicken, I put myself in its claws and imagine what it would be like to hatch, and at the beginning of my life to have the tip of my nose cut off, without anything to dull the pain. I imagine having to live the first few months of my life in agonizing pain because of that. I imagine how I will be shoved in a room, filled until there is no available space left for one more chicken. And then I see myself shitting and pissing where I stand because it doesn't matter, if I were to move, I would just step in my neighbors' excrement. I imagine some of my neighbors dying because of these living conditions and I imagine the already dead ones just being tossed into a bucket so they are out of the way.
Sound like something familiar? Think Hitler. Yeah, that's it! The Holocaust. Only most people don't care because, it's just a chicken, right? Wrong. No, you are right it IS a chicken, but that does not matter, either way, human or chicken, the way it is treated is wrong. Now think of it this way. We have a heartbeat, so do chickens. We have skin, so do chickens. We have eyes, so do chickens. We have noses, so do chickens. (Well at least until they are cut off.) We have a brain, so do chickens. We feel pain and SO DO CHICKENS. How different are we really? They have feathers, they don't speak any human language...Well of course they don't! They aren't humans, but they are still made out of the same basic things that make us what we are. Now how many of you would convert to cannibalism? Well, you basically already have if you ingest meat, flesh, blood, living tissue, etc. It's the same thing you have on you.
Now that's just one animal. The horrors most farm animals experience in their so-called lives, can be easily compared because no matter what animal, the conditions are nearly as horrifying as any others'. Such as a pig, imagine living in a pen, so small you cannot even turn around. You would go insane right? Well a lot of pigs do. Now imagine having your teeth cut off with a pair of wire cutters and having no Novocain at all. It happens to piglets every day. What about having so little room you can't even cuddle with your kids? Every day a sow lays there with her piglets with just a enough room so they can eat. Imagine not being able to move without crushing your kids to death? Sound like something you would like to sign up for? I don't think so. But every time you buy a package of sausage, or eat a sausage McMuffin from McDonald's, you supporting this treatment.
These animal's have no voice, they don't get to stand up for themselves and no other animals are going to come save them, like the Holocaust. It doesn't work that way for them. So you have to be the hero. You have to stand up and speak for these animals. They need you. Will you turn your back on them? Or will you stop supporting this cruel acts. If you buy or eat any kind of meat, beef, pork, chicken and even fish, you are supporting the largest act of cruelty towards animals that exists today. You are supporting the raising and slaughtering of helpless animals. You are supporting the act of inflicting pain and misery on, not one, but MILLIONS of animals. If you don't see what I see, then I could not imagine being as ignorant as you are. Believe what you want, but I know for a fact, that ignorance is NOT bliss. I know what's in your food, do you?
